What are the care instructions for fabrics made from polypropylene yarn?

The key to caring for polypropylene yarn is to avoid damage from high temperatures and prevent snagging or deformation. Specific precautions fall into four categories: washing, drying, air-drying, and storage.

 

1. Washing: Keep the water temperature below 30°C and use a neutral detergent (such as standard liquid laundry detergent); avoid highly alkaline soaps or bleach. Wash gently by hand or use the "delicate" cycle on a washing machine; do not rub vigorously, as this can damage the fibers.

 

2. Drying: High-temperature drying is strictly prohibited (e.g., using the high-heat setting on a dryer or exposing the fabric to open flames). High heat can cause polypropylene yarn to shrink, harden, or even melt. Natural air-drying is recommended.

 

3. Air-drying: Avoid prolonged exposure to intense sunlight. Although polypropylene has good light resistance, excessive exposure can still cause fading and material degradation. Lay the item flat or hang it to dry in a cool, well-ventilated area; when hanging, use a wide-shouldered hanger to prevent the shoulder area from losing its shape.

 

4. Storage: Fold and store the item after washing and drying. Avoid prolonged contact with sharp objects (such as zippers or buttons) to prevent snagging. Moisture protection is unnecessary (polypropylene is non-absorbent), but the item should be kept away from high-temperature sources (such as heaters or stovetops).
