Aramid fiber-fully known as aromatic polyamide fiber-is hailed as a leader among high-performance fibers. Along with carbon fiber, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber, and basalt fiber, it is classified in my country as one of the four key high-performance fibers targeted for development. Although both aramid and ordinary nylon (polyamide) belong to the class of amide fibers and feature amide bonds in their macromolecular backbones, they differ fundamentally in structure. In nylon, the amide bond is linked to an aliphatic group, whereas in aramid, it is linked to a benzene ring; this structural distinction gives aramid fiber superior performance characteristics.
