Parallel Strand Construction

Texturing is an important specification element for clients creating bulk basalt textiles. Together with the intended yarn volume, factors like fibre diameter, sizing content, moisture content, tensile strength, and modulus should be taken into account. The structure should be chosen according to the intended textile function rather than just treating textured yarn as a different tex grade. This makes it possible to assess basalt-textured yarns in technical textile constructions for vibration, sound, and volume-related applications. Basalt assembled yarns consist of one or more parallel, untwisted strands of basalt yarns. Because the strands stay parallel, its structure is different from conventional twisted yarns.

A standard framework based on fibre diameter, size, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, elongation, and melt flow range is supplied, together with information identifying the product as plied basalt yarn.The moisture content is less than 0.75%, the fibre diameter is between 6 and 13 μm, and the particle size distribution is at least 0.8%. The elastic modulus is at least 95 GPa, and the tensile strength is at least 0.6 N/Tex. The melting range is 1460–1500°C, and the elongation at break is 2.6%.

Suitable for Reinforcement Processing

Basalt assembled yarn has a different structure than twisted yarn because parallel strands are maintained. When fabric or composite processes are planned around parallel strands rather than twisted bundles, this can be helpful for reinforcing work. Basalt yarn has strong adhesive strength and can attach with a range of resins, according to product description. Because yarn arrangement and resin compatibility are crucial in reinforcement-oriented processing, constructed structures become relevant.
Additionally, a wider variety of basalt yarns are detailed for use in radiation protection, firefighting equipment, high-temperature products, corrosion-resistant products, fire-retardant and flame-retardant products, and reinforcement applications. It combines excellent electrical insulation, resistance to chemical corrosion, acids, alkalis, and salts, and high tensile strength and modulus of elasticity.
