Muscovite for Electrical Insulation

One of the two main forms of mica offered, together with phlogopite, is muscovite mica tape. While phlogopite is more closely linked to fire and heat resistance, muscovite is distinguished mainly by its electrical insulating qualities. As a result, muscovite is employed in situations where the insulation system's dielectric performance is crucial.
Mica paper derived from calcined muscovite or phlogopite is described in VPI product requirements. The mica paper's uncalcined, porous structure permits the quick absorption of VPI resin despite its inherent dielectric strength. Construction for VPI Processing

The binder percentage in low-resin VPI systems is kept below 15%, usually between 10 and 12 g/m². Because of this, the tape can be impregnated with VPI resin during manufacturing. The typical fiberglass-reinforced structure has a dielectric strength of 15–25 kV/mm and a nominal thickness of 0.10–0.18 mm. The specified porosity is greater than 1600–2500 s/100 ml, and the tensile strength is at least 150 N/cm.
