The Material That Does Two Jobs

The combination of mica's dielectric strength surpassing 20 kV/mm and its temperature resistance reaching 500°C to 1000°C is unmatched by synthetic polymers. Mica sheet insulation can be employed in any product, from toaster heating elements to 13.8 kV generator stator windings, because of its dual capability. It can shield components from electrical problems and fire because it is non-flammable and offers voltage insulation. This substance is composed of naturally occurring layered silicate crystals that can be broken down into sheets as thin as 0.01 mm. The dielectric strength of the crystals is then preserved in a way that engineers may utilise by reforming these sheets with resin into coherent sheets.

Where It Proves Itself

All industries can use the same material. It keeps transformer oil chemically compatible and boosts heat capacity in high-temperature regions of transformers. It offers vibration-resistant turn-to-turn and phase-to-phase insulation in rotating machinery. It insulates the casing and supports resistance wires in heating equipment.

It creates a barrier between batteries in electric car battery packs, reducing thermal runaway and delaying system reaction. One mineral, numerous applications. Because phlogopite has a dielectric strength of over 80% at 600°C and muscovite has a dielectric strength of roughly 85% to 90% at 400°C, the insulation can continue to operate as intended even when equipment is heated.
